Frequently Asked Questions
1. How many wires do I need running to the guest room?

Each guest room needs to have at least two pairs running between the Intermediate Telephone Closet and the guest room.
Most hotels have at least two pair running between the Intermediate Telephone Closet and the guest room.

2. Can I have voice telephone signals on both pairs?

YES. Both pairs can carry voice and data.

3. Are there any special  wiring requirements?

The OverVoice system is installed in hundreds of hotels with category 3 and even unrated wiring.
4. Are there any special ethernet switch requirements?

The ethernet switch ports connected to the room via OverVoice must be set to 10baseT.  This is because most hotel telephone wiring is category 3 or less.

5. Over what distances can I expect the OverVoice system to work reliably?

10baseT ethernet is specified to work 300 feet. This is a typical number for the Overvoice system. Performance will vary with the category of wiring.

6. When would I need a  two port DSL filter?

The two port DSL filter is used to prevent reflections on the ethernet wiring.
In typical hotels, the telephone wires run from an intermediate telephone closet to several telephone jacks in the quest room. The jacks are daisy chained in the room.
If the wires come to the night stand first and then the desk, you will need to install a two port DSL filter between the phone and the phone jack at the night stand.
